Physical Graffiti, the sixth studio album released by English rock band Led Zeppelin, was released on February 24 of 1975. The album is comprised of two disks with 4 total sides titled “Custard Pie,” “Houses of Holy,” “In the Light,” and “Night Flight.” The designer, Peter Corriston, chose to depict 96 and 98 St. Mark's Place in New York's East Village because of its square shape, interesting architectural details, and unobstructed view. The design features special die cuts revealing a middle insert containing the two disks. The original release date towards the end of 1974 was delayed because of the album's special die-cut design and its level of difficulty to manufacture. The orignal photograph of this building was altared to crop off the top floor in order to accomodate the square design. In 1976 the album was nominated for a Grammy Award for best album packaging.
