Copenhagen Jazz Festival 1983
This poster was designed for the 1983 Jazz Festival, which took place in Copenhagen, Denmark. originally designed by Per Arnoldi, a renowned Danish designer. This festival selected a different Danish designer to create the poster advertising the festival every year, to further the idea that this is a Danish festival. It has since flourished into one the largest and most popular annual jazz festivals in the world with people flying in from all around the world.
This modernist poster is significant for design because, in it, the word “jazz” has been somewhat married into the saxophone, eluding to the idea that jazz is effortlessly part of the instrument. Arnoldi has turned musical expression into a metaphor while also displaying is mastery of simplification of objects, perfect use of hues, and modernist style.
