Alpha 3 Mug, Kato Kogei’s Fujimori Collection
This mug is part of the Alpha 3 line of Japanese ceramics designer Kato Kogei’s Fujimori Collection. The mug belonged to a matching plate (not pictured). This line of ceramics were designed by Fujimori, the art director of Kato Kogei at the time. They take major inspiration from the postmodern style of the Memphis Group, an Italian design group active between 1980 and 1987. This style has become the defining style of the 1980s and is characterized by its flat, geometric shapes and neon contrasting colors. The Alpha 3 line consisted of 4 different matching mug and plate sets, each featuring a unique geometric design.
