I Can't Keep My Foot From Jumping by Johnny Young

Johnny Young was an influential blues musician from the 1960s to 1990s who pioneered the postwar blues movement in Chicago.  He released many albums with a very wide range of aesthetics throughout his career. This particular album cover for “I Can't Keep My Foot From Jumping” uses photography and typography to create a casual folk feel, which is similar to the feel of Young's music. The typography looks similar to the typeface Peignot, which famous Art Deco artist A.M. Cassandre is known for using in his work. On the left side of the front cover, the viewer can see signs with hand-lettered words which were popular during the 1960s and 70s. The back of the record uses the same typeface as the front of the record as well as a serif typeface for the body copy. The record label is fairly simple with basic typography and the BluesWay logo set inside a blue circle. This record is important to design history because it shows how colored photography was used during the 1970s in the music industry.
