Three Tales of Justice Children's Book

7

Illustrated and arranged in 1974, this picture book combines The Elves and the Shoemaker by the Brothers Grimm, The Lad Who Went to the North Wind by Peter C. Asbjornsen, and The Tiger, the Brahman and the Jackal by Flora Annie Steel. The book was designed and illustrated by Harry Wysocki. Harry Wysocki is an American artist from Detroit who was inspired by Japanese artists during World War II but was then inspired by the art deco style post-return to America. This picture book's flat color and “cut paper” style is strongly inspired by mid-century design. This book is important to graphic design because it shows how a limited color palette and abstraction of shapes and characters can still create a successful children's book.
