The book is the first of four in the “For Ladies” series of fantasy books, followed by The Scariest Story in the World: The Rose Devil (1968), The Strangest Story in the World: The Rose Demigod (1969), and The Loneliest Story in the World: Burial of Roses (1970). Author Takeuchi and designer Uno Akira were active participants in the nascent Tokyo angura underground theater scene.
