New Music Media Poster 1974

10

Eiko Ishioka created this poster in 1974 for a contemporary summer music festival held in the resort town of Karuizawa.  In order to get the perfect ellipse, Ishioka ran to a used bookstore and bought up all the “girlie” magazines she could find.  She said, “I took them home and cut up the pages that were packed with nude photos until I finally found the oshiri (bottom) of my dreams.  When I placed a curved rule around it, it formed an exact 60° ellipse.  About two-thirds of this peach-like form is the unretouched original photo.  The remaining third I went over with an airbrush.”
