Shimomura Crossing the Delaware

6

This painting was inspired by the thought of ‘what if George Washington was Japanese American?’. Shimomura is depicted in place of George Washington, with samurai surrounding him instead of continental army soldiers. The Delaware river has also been altered to resemble the San Francisco Harbor, with Angel Island in the background, which is the former processing center for Asian immigrants.
