This poster was part of Kao Soap's effort to popularize the term “shampoo” in Japan. The effort was launched in 1932 and greatly changed the hair-washing habits of the Japanese population. The popularity and quality of this advertisement led to powdered shampoo, such as the one depicted, to be considered a common household cosmetic product.
