DeJay Playmates SP-12

8

This image depicts the inside of the 1965-1969 DeJay Playmates Model sp12 record player which was a working record player designed for children. It features stylized clown figures in front of a hexagonal shape with type in the middle. The type includes black sans serif text above a script text. It has a two tone red and yellow color palette. The style of the illustrations and the colors are very indicative of the period. Many designs from the time were set in a warm color palette and had what is thought of as a “groovy” feel to them. This shows how products were designed and packaged for children and what designers believed would be appealing to children. It was manufactured by
DeJay Corporation; Holbrook (MA)
