The 5th Exhibition of Contemporary Japanese Sculpture
Type of Work
It is the poster of “the 5th exhibition of contemporary Japanese sculpture” in 1973. The designer Awazu Kiyoshi argued that the mission of a designer is to extend the countryside into the city, bring folklore to the fore, revive the past, summon back the outdated. In contrast to popular modernist tenets that sought universal and impersonal symbols, Awazu imbued his expressive hand-painted designs with local traditions.
