Ivey's Department Store advertisement from the Charlotte Observer
This newspaper advertisement is for the Ivey's department store grand opening, which seems to be marketed as a big, lavish department-like store. This advertisement is for the opening of the store located in Southpark shopping center. The image of a lounging cat with pearls, a crown, and feminine features alludes to the store being for women who like luxury items. Paired with this image is a poem, which is unusual to see now. The poem describes the type of treatment the woman will receive when she shops at Ivey's, such as very nice people and her purchases delivered straight to her door. Shopping at Ivey's will solve all of her problems and shower her with luxurious gifts. Dillards later purchased Ivey's company in June of 1990.
