Katsukawa Shunshō is a Japanese woodblock paint artist during the middle of the Edo period. He is known for the paintings of kabuki actors called Yakusha-e, which started portraying approximately in 1765. In his later career, he also designed beautiful women. This work is considered to portray the daughter or the wife from a wealthy merchant family, judging from her hairstyle and the kimono she wears. The black kimono makes a beautiful contrast with the white obi decorated with colorful spring flowers. The red undergarment can be seen from the cuffs and hems, makes a vivid color scheme of elegant and soft color work otherwise.
