Postcard for Chicago's Savoy Ballroom
Chicago's Savoy Ballroom opened around 1927 on Chicago's south side Bronzeville neighborhood. Like its namesake Savoy Ballroom in Harlem, it was a prime destination for jazz, musical performances, boxing, dances, and even basketball (where the Harlem Globetrotters, who were actually from Chicago despite the name, performed). Many prominent African Americans performed here, created costumes, sets and posters for shows that were here until the building was demolished in the 1970s.
According to Wikipedia there was a triple subfloor and a coatroom to check 6k hats and coats, and two bands per night from 1927–40!
