Centra Batteries Logo 1920s-1990s
The Centra Batteries brand first appeared in Poland in 1925.
During the early years the brand was associated with dry-cell batteries commonly used in flash lights, toys and portable radios.
In the 1970s after a merger with Poznańskie Zakłady Elektryczne Alco, the company manufactured auto batteries, sold under the Centra name.
Centra was purchased by Exide in 1995 and is now owned by the European based Exide Technologies.
Today made in a modern factory in Poznan, Poland, Centra remains a respected brand of light & commercial vehicle batteries throughout Eastern Europe.

David Podhorzer was my father born circa 1905 in Lwow killed by the Nazis shot outside his factory in circa 1942. I was born in Lwow in 1941 and by the time I was one end of 1942 both my parents had been killed during the war . From about 1925 until he was shot outside his Centra Battery Factory he owned and represented the originally German company for the whole of Poland. His factory was in the centre of Lwow and I visited there around 1990 and it was still there but no longer a battery factory but it had many army vehicles stationed there so I could not get inside as it clearly had become a military building of some kind. Can anyone share any more information about the factory in that period or later and any photographs of my father and the factory
