The Electric Storage Battery Co. of Philadelphia, USA invented the world's first starter battery four years before this ad appeared in the ‘Scientific American’ in 1916.

Text reminds the reader that ‘Exide’ is the original Uniseal Battery and the company is the largest manufacturer of all batteries. The message suggests that competitors were taking a share of this market.

The illustration is ‘cartoon’ in style and the ‘Exide’ logo appears in a German Gothic font style that was used by the company for over fifty years in the first half of the 20th Century.
