The Church of the SubGenius is a parody religion started by Rev. Ivan Stang and Dr. Philo Drummond in 1979. One of the first things they did to establish the Church was design a pamphlet inspired by the many religious pamphlets they had seen at laundromats in North Texas in the 1970s. Neither Stang nor Drummond were graphic designers, and they weren't artists either. So they used public domain clip art—because it was free—and paired it with their weird, over-the-top, conspiracy theory-inspired “religious” text.
