McCrorey Heights, off Beatties Ford Road and Oaklawn Avenue just north of Johnson C. Smith University, is one of Charlotte's most historically significant neighborhoods. It was founded in 1912 by JCSU president Rev. H.L. McCrorey as a development of ranch-style suburban homes for Charlotte's African American educated elite.
