Casa de Las Americas journal cover

63

Casa de Las Americas is an organization founded in 1959 after the Cuban Revolution to focus on international relations. This cover from 1968 celebrates revolutionary leader Che Guevara. Bold sans serif typography and a graphic image representing the barrel of a gun show three different kinds of perspective, yet the effect is powerful.

“The journal Casa de las Americas has had an undeniable impact on Latin America literary life, publishing important cultural and philosophical texts. Its editor since 1965 has been Roberto Fernandez Retamar, who also took over the Presidency of the Casa in 1986 from painter Mariano Rodriguez.” (Encyclopedia of Latin American and Caribbean Literature, 1900-2003, p. 120)
