Railways Under London

3

Marie Neurath’s, Railways Under London is a vibrantly illustrated book published in 1964 depicting the designs and functioning of the London tube system. In this children’s book, Neurath uses visual language to communicate concepts in this “Isotype” work to communicate historical and statistical information to the public.

“Under the hub of London, Piccadilly Circus, two tube railways cross (at an angle as the map shows). To speed the crowding passengers machines give them both tickets and change, and eleven moving staircases carry them quickly to and from the plat-forms below. Red shows people entering the station, and blue shows them leaving it.”
