1951 Topps Baseball Cards

5

Topps began as a chewing gum company in Brooklyn in 1938. By 1949, still an active member in the American bubblegum competition, they began releasing bubblegum packs that included magic photo cards of baseball greats. In 1951, Topps released their very first set of baseball cards, solidifying their future status as a big name in baseball cards. When they released the first series in 1951, they released two lines: "Red Backs" and "Blue Backs".
