“Rostros de México”. México, UNAM, 1966. Photographs by Bernice Kolko. Text by Rosario Castellanos. Bernice Kolko (1905-1970) was a photographer of Polish origin, nationalized American. Intimate friend of Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo, she lived in Mexico for more than 15 years. She is the first photographer to exhibit individually at the National Institute of Fine Arts (Women of Mexico, 1955). In the words of Rosario Castellanos “This double condition of immigration, in addition to his artist's gifts, allowed her - when she arrived in Mexico - to discover in Mexico not that exotic country reserved for tourists, superficial observers, ephemeral sensation seekers, but that secret country that reveals itself only to those who love it ” https://www.picuki.com/media/2353897236521655201
