The New Woman's Survival Catalog

The New Woman's Survival Catalog is a low budget publication that documents the efforts of feminist bookstores, health centers, galleries, art schools, publishers, farms, and more across the U.S. In the introduction Grimstad and Rennie write, "These projects express a rejection of the values of existing institutional structures and, unlike the male hip counter-culture, represent an active attempt to reshape culture through changing values and consciousness” Grimstad and Rennie wanted their catalog to bring together all of the activities and initiatives happening during the Second Wave movement. The catalog also covers topics ranging from parenting to abortion to financial resources. The New Woman's Survival Catalog was put together in just 5 months by a small group of women in an Upper West Side Apartment where they typeset and edited the entire book and turned their bathroom into a dark room. It was recently published again in 2019 by Primary Information.
