The Sex Worker Zine Project
This collection of zines , a compilation of the experiences of participants, civil society activists and researchers across the globe illuminate what it is to live as a sex worker in South Africa. The main purpose of this publication is to implore the viewer to challenge the stereotype of the migrant sex worker and the zine is a perfect format , engaging with multiple narratives and removing the barriers of politicized/ capital based communication. This project was complied by MoVE (Methods:visual:explore) , a group focused on the development of communication and education in tandem with art in order to improve responses to migration, health and well-being in the SADC region.
From the publishers of this project ,
"We hope that the stories shared through these zines, and the reflections from other contributors, provide opportunities for varied forms of public engagement on issues relating to migration, sex work and the politics of knowledge, in ways that honour the storyteller, and – critically – move away from the single story."
