Tiles usually painted with vegetable dyes that create patterns of bright, intense, and long-lasting colors. The tiles are made with a process that dates back to the nineteenth century, after the invention of the hydraulic press and mass-produced cement. This technology allowed for the mass production of tiles since there was no longer needed to cook the clay in the oven. The tiles were especially popular in Colombia during the ’60s.
