Cinema Lobby Card Cardboard movie advertisements or otherwise known as “Lobby Cards” were commonly used as cardboard advertisements with little photographs of scenes from the movie it was advertising. Their name comes from the fact that they were used in the lobbies of cinema venues to excite ticket buyers about the movies on display. They varied in their approach but their process was usually a mix of printed and manual interventions. It took elements from the movie posters while always leaving a space for the photograph that would then be manually added to the cards. Thus the card would be printed and the photograph would be added on top of it, in the designated place. It is very common to find the same movie card with different photographs of different scenes. It was the earliest form of movie trailers.
