This image is a historic newspaper advertisement published in the national morning edition of the Asahi Shimbun on August 6, 2004 (the anniversary of the Hiroshima atomic bombing).

• "自衛隊はイラクから今すぐ撤退を" (Self-Defense Forces must withdraw from Iraq immediately)
• "憲法九条の改悪を許しません" (We will not tolerate the degradation of Article 9 of the Constitution)

The text layout was designed by the Japanese book designer Suzuki Hitoshi. By adjusting the visual weight and text density of thousands of citizen sponsors' names who crowdfunded the advertisement, Suzuki formed a hidden, macro-scale calligraphic rendering of the anti-war slogan "KOROSUNA" (殺すな / Do Not Kill)" across the entire center section of the page. The badge graphic on the left utilizes historic 1967 lettering drawn by avant-garde artist Taro Okamoto during the Vietnam anti-war movement.
