This graphic design of one of Katsushika Hokusai pieces was designed by Kenjiro Sano for the 29th anniversary of TOKYO DESIGNERS WEEK “Hokusai Inspired exhibition” in 2014. Sano used 6 of Hokusai works for this exhibition. This image was scanned from the book Graphic Design in Japan 2015 (17th Kamekura Yusaku Award) at Temple University Japan City Campus library in Tokyo, Japan.
In this edition of the book, Kenjiro was awarded the 17th Kamekura Yusaku Award. In his winner's comment, Sano admires Kamekura's 1964 Tokyo Olympics emblem design for its simple and bold design and calls it one of his favorite works by Kamekura.
Kenjiro Sano was born in Tokyo in 1972 and received his graphic design degree from Tama Art University. After earning his degree, he served as an Art Director and Creative Director at Hakuhodo. He founded his own company, MR_DESIGN INC, in 2008. Kenjiro is also a professor at Tama Art University, Department of Integrated Design.
