Cover for the first edition of "Songs From This Earth On Turtle's Back" by Joseph Bruchac, published by The Greenfield Review Press in 1983. The book is collection of various poems and songs from indigenous writers around North America. It includes fifty-two poets from over thirty-five indigenous nations. It introduces each poet briefly then shows some of their works. The illustration itself is backed by a bulbous shape with a large circle cut out of the middle of it. In front of that is part of a turtle with only one leg and part of the shell visible, flying in front is a dark hawk with long wings, below is a native American man in ceremonial dress, with two eagle feathers sticking out of the left side of his head, he also wears a beaded choker with a large circle in front from which two strings hang. to the right of the man is a flute, a drum with 3 eagle feathers hanging from its stitching, a drum beater, and a cylindrical instrument with a handle protruding from the bottom, it is decorated with lines and dots along the top and bottom, the bottom top line has hills with sprouts growing out of the top of each.
