History in Da Key of G

Building a "Recovery for All of us", was part of the intention in my transformative, intergenerational, collaborative engagement called "History In Da Key Of G". This creative workshop, will equip participants with simple tools with which to empower themselves. In the first phase, I encourage participants to delve into the personal universe of the family, uncovering treasured memories. The process of this discovery is heightened by the rich, bucolic staging afforded by the West Harlem Art Fund, where in beauty and peace we progress through an interactive game. Participants utilize data they cull from an historical, geographical, and personal P.O.V. Music will enhance this lively experience, as participants create a lasting memento of the engagement. As the program progresses, each participant will have had an opportunity to share their discoveries, exchange familiarities, and discover that the most ordinary experience can be the most extraordinary remembrance. The final act will be to preserve our stories providing the inextricable link from the artist to the community. "History In Da Key of G" participants of varying ages and stages will feel, within this nostalgic setting, a new way to view our tentative natures and to be renewed as bold, confident, and fabulously knowledgeable about ourselves and our world; having found our shuttered voices through storytelling, poetry, song and a sense of belonging to the family of community. The takeaway from this engagement is beneficial to all: we all find new strengths in ourselves which strengthens others, is undeniably empowering and inevitably life-changing.
