This striking poster for Triplex Safety Glass was produced by Alliance Graphique, the influential Parisian design and advertising studio founded in 1930 by the celebrated Art Deco graphic artist A.M. Cassandre (Adolphe Jean-Marie Mouron), renowned poster artist Charles Loupot, and businessman Maurice Moyrand. Among the studio's most iconic works were Cassandre's monumental lithograph poster for the luxury ocean liner L'Atlantique and the dramatic, perspective-driven Étoile du Nord railway poster.
The Triplex poster itself was a collaboration between Cassandre and Loupot and carries the studio's distinctive dual-designer imprint. Cassandre brought his characteristic monumental forms and Cubist-inspired geometry to the design, while Loupot pushed the composition towards a more abstract and modernist aesthetic. The result is a powerful visual statement that reflects the innovation and optimism of the interwar period.
Triplex safety glass originated from a French invention that laminated sheets of glass together so that, when shattered, they would not break into the dangerous shards responsible for countless injuries and fatalities during the early years of motoring. The process was subsequently licensed to a major British glass manufacturer, which successfully promoted and commercialised the technology worldwide. Triplex safety glass became widely used in motor vehicles, aircraft and protective eyewear, helping to establish new standards of safety across a range of industries.
