This illustration is part of a survey done by Kon Wajiro and Yoshida Kenkichi studying the people of ginza after the 1923 earthquake. They were interested in capturing the way Tokyo was rebuilding it's self more specifially how the cuture of the time was shifing from traditional Japanese to more modern Western trends. They would go on to do more studies of different kinds all being published in Fujin koron magazine later being released as a collection book.
