Vietnam War Memorial
21-year old Maya Lin won a competition for a (then new) memorial on the national mall to commemorate the Vietnam War. The solution stands out for not including figurative sculpture, like other memorials in Washington DC and for instead using typography. Here, thousands of names set in all capital Optima (Hermann Zapf), establishes a kind of infographic and honor to the lives lost.
