Crescent Machine Works is a family owned business that has been servicing kitchen hardware in Spokane, Washington since the year 1916.
Their services include parts replacement and general maintenance.
This serves as a functional modern version of what a "ghost sign" would look like. Ghost signs are fairly common in the area, and are signs painted directly on the walls of businesses to advertise their services. This one isn't exactly a ghost sign as the business still functions. Though, it does serve as an interesting look at what one of these other ghost signs may look like if they were provided with more consistent upkeep.
The sign appears to be likely from the mid 20th Century, deploying some moderate minimalism, with a hint of Art Nouveau imagery ornamenting the border box surrounding the text. No color appears anywhere on the painted sign. What's mostly interesting about this sign is that it is not entirely limited to two dimensions of space. It seems as though they ran out of space on the wall, and thusly decided to just keep the design going despite the plane containing the sign changing.
