I would like to discuss for this project is the Irish Republican Army posters of the 1970s through the 1990s. They are significant in design history because they are political posters that represent a time when there was great unrest in the country of Ireland, and that can be reflected in our present day, as many other countries across the globe are in that same predicament. These images show how a group of people with few resources was able to get their message across using design to their advantage. Although some of these images may advocate for violence, they also advocate for the rights of other disenfranchised groups, such as women. These photos are an example of when a group of people intends to get a point across that resonates with an audience, using simple phrases and slogans so that it has as much impact as possible. This can be seen by the choice of using bold fonts and colors.

The text above displays the year 1916, which is the year of the Easter Rising, the insurrection led by the Irish people against the British occupation. The text underneath is a proclamation of Ireland’s sovereignty from the British.
