Chaos Is Me

Design for hardcore/adjacent albums are often overlooked or even dismissed by the general public, mostly because of their chaotic, overwhelming style and music that’s involved. Designs such as these are very underrepresented in the archive at this moment, it’s important to include these works because of the rich history behind the scene surrounding them. 

Released on June 21, 1999, Chaos Is Me is Orchid’s first studio release. The figure on the cover is somewhat reminiscent of the Misfits ghoul, clearly showing an artistic connection through the punk and hardcore scene. The high contrast of red on the dark background creates a rising sense of anger and anticipation, fitting for the loud and emotional sound of Orchid.
