The Family Tree

Inspired by folk-art movements, Karkutli depicted activist causes. The visual language feels both narrative and decorative, flattened forms, repeating textures, and expressive linework create a rhythm. This piece challenges Western modernist ideas of clarity and neutrality and instead prioritizes cultural identity, ornament, and voice. The integration of text as an image, rather than just readable content, expands typography into something expressive and illustrative.
