Drawing for Whaam!

129

A small-scale graphite-on-paper sketch used to plan the composition of his famous 1963 diptych painting, Whaam!. It shows the initial layout of the two panels inspired by a 1962 DC Comics war comic, featuring a fighter plane firing a rocket in one panel and the resulting explosion in the other. The medium is graphic on white paper.
