In 2015, “kayaktivists” from Greenpeace placed themselves between Shell’s Polar Pioneer oil drilling rig and its destination in the Arctic. Although the barge ultimately passed, the activists succeeded in delaying drilling and extraction. Preserving records of actions like this is important for amplifying their voices and drawing attention to urgent climate issues. It also inspires others to use creative forms of protest and design to drive social change.
