This is a popular magazine published and produced in the United Kingdom. This particular issue is from September 1987. The Cover features the introduction of the Grim-Dark universe of Warhammer 40,000 , a now popular sci-fi universe.
The Magazine's cover is designed to catch the eyes of wargamers browsing local hobby stores. Priestly and his team designed their best interpretation of a war torn universe. Where there are no “Good Guys” and is heavily inspired by fascist futurism, and dystopian imagery.
The contents of the magazine provide illustrations and photographs of various products and games sold and created by Games Workshop. The page layout is very telling of the date is was created featuring a semi standard 80's layout for magazines. Almost every illustration is hand drawn featuring stylistic sci-fi and fantasy environments. These illustrations are accompanied by various stories and tales from the environments depicted in the magazine.
Another telltale sign of the year it was produced was the various uses of photography within the magazine. Featuring pictures of fully assembled and painted models, handmade tabletop dioramas, and more. These photos were implemented to not only advertise the products features in the magazine itself but also to spark and inspire reader's own creativity, pushing them to create their own dioramas with small model buildings and industry out of various pieces of recycled cardboard and plastics.
