Jimmy Fund Poster with Ted Williams and Joe Cronin

1

This framed and signed poster from 1984 advertises a headliner retirement event of baseball Hall of Famers Ted Williams (no. 9) and Joe Cronin (no. 4). The poster was designed, distributed and printed by The Boston Globe, a journalism company.

This event was conducted to raise money for the Jimmy Fund; notably, Ted Williams had participated in fundraising for the Jimmy Fund throughout his career.

The Jimmy Fund is an American charity founded in 1948, intended to raise money for treating children with cancer. “Jimmy", originally named Einar Gustafson, was a young baseball fan who was selected as a mascot for his optimistic personality and marketability. The Jimmy Fund found massive success right away, raising millions from advertising at baseball games and over radio talk shows. Representing a headliner event conducted almost forty years later, this advertisement is a testament to the Jimmy Fund's lasting success.
