Adobe InDesign Logos

Adobe InDesign is a software for developing various publications, like e-books, posters, and presentations. The program was released in 1999, and its logo has evolved twelve times in the last 27 years.  These stages of evolution can be separated into two different eras: a graphical era and a text-based era.

The graphical era started with InDesign's original logo, created in 1998, which is composed of the letter “K” with a background image of a mountain. Over the next seven years, the InDesign logo of the graphical era had evolved into a Butterfly designed in 2005; depicted in the colors orange and pink with a translucency to it, on top of a white background.

The text-based era started in 2007. InDesign switched to a more minimalist concept. Sticking with the color pink from the last Buttergly logo, the logo is now an icon of a dark pink square with a white “ID” in a sans-serif typeface. The icon has changed 6 times since then, the current version being designed in 2020.  The main color scheme of the icon is the same color of pink and burgundy, both shades becoming darker and calmer, making a more elegant and strong look. The icon has become softer and more friendly due to the rounded corners of the icon.
