Paris is Burning Cover Art

20

This is the cover art for the documentary film Paris is Burning in 1990. Paris is Burning is about the Harlem drag scene and the origins of vogueing with drag balls and rival houses. The photograph for the cover features Venus Xtravaganza from one of the houses in the film. The scene features Black and Latin queer folk as they struggle with homophobia, racism, transphobia, AIDS, and poverty during the 80s. The design for the cover is surprisingly minimal in comparison to the wild and colorful lives shown in the documentary. Paris is Burning is one of the most important cultural pieces to the queer community and Harlem's history. It highlights the struggle that brings together the community.
