Diary of a Shinjuku Thief 新宿泥棒日記

6

Yokoo Tadanori-designed offset-printed poster for the divisive 1968 agitprop film Diary of a Shinjuku Thief 新宿泥棒日記 directed by Nagisa Oshima 大島渚. The poster combines photography of the movie’s stars and supporting cast members, censored historical pornographic shunga ukiyo-e printmaking, and Yokoo’s then contemporary, ukiyo-e-informed illustration. The film starred Yokoo as Birdie Hilltop as the titular young book thief. This poster was the initial B2-size poster released by the film studio Kabushikigaisha Sōzōsha 株式会社創造社.
