A Little Princess (1995) Movie Poster

1

This image is the 1995 movie poster for Frances Hodgson Burnett's “A Little Princess” film adaptation. Directed by Alfonso Cuarón, the poster features Eleanor Bron peering out a window, her face aglow.  The poster is notable example of 90s cinematic poster design. The film, surrounding a girl in an all-girls home whose father is fighting in World War II, is truly encapsulated in the poster. By lighting her face with a wide-eyed expression, the poster demonstrates the whimsical nature of the film. The text at the top is in a scripted yellow and blue font, alluding to the storybook nature of the film. It is a great. Within the Archive, it represents how design can tell a narrative through framing and elicit emotions.
