The Black Panther Newspaper, Vol.4 , no.8

6

A 1970 publication of The Black Panther Party is two-toned ink on 17 5/8” x 11 ½” newsprint, designed by Emory Douglas the Minister of Culture and Revolutionary Art, who designed for much of the paper visual identity. The Cover and Spread, highlights a recent fire that attempted to destroy the Black Panther Community News Service.

While the main headquarter of the magazines was in San Francisco but due to constant threat, they ensured multiple mobile operations for the publication. Limited production tools influenced the style of the magazine, the standard fonts they had like Futura and Helvetica, and the one color addition to the magazine gray scale printing which is apparent in this cover and spread.
