In the upper half of the image, a young runner holding a torch is placed in front of a gradient purple and blue sky, symbolizing the Olympic flame and youthful energy; in the lower half of the image, a large area is left white on a black background, and in the middle is placed the official emblem of a red sun + five rings, with golden Roman numerals “XVIII OLYMPIC GAMES” marking the event and the date. The poster is both solemn and dynamic, and has become a landmark of Japanese design in the international arena.
