China faced serious environmental problems at the end of the 20th century, such as the desertification of the land shown in the picture on the cover of the book. The parched land symbolises the ecological crisis that China is facing. The black and orange font on the cover not only makes the title stand out, but also creates a sense of crisis. The strong colour contrast and unbalanced typography convey the urgency of China's ecological crisis.
