The Story of Graphic Design

20

The Story of Graphic Design written by graphic designer Patrick Cramsie speaks about the development of the graphic styles portrayed in the West throughout the 19th-20th centuries. The book discusses a variety of different figures throughout the years including designer Otl Aicher. In 1972, Otl Aicher was one of the main designers for the Munich Olympics and one of his standouts was a poster he helped designed. In this poster, he chose to go for a minimalistic style of typography used only two sets of colors (blue and green). All togethe he designed 21 sports posters for the Olympics which incorporated a singular image that everyone could recognize. The gymanast in this poster is seen to be leaping in the air and gives the impression that this was caught at the right moment.

The front book cover design has the title and author printed backwards with a simple color scheme and layout. The cover almost looks like it hasn't been finished, and when you turn to the back cover the words are printed the right way, but with the same simplicity as shown in the front.
