Kan Tai-Keung is a renowned graphic designer, calligrapher, and ink painter from Hong Kong, often regarded as the “Father of Hong Kong Design.” He is known for skillfully blending calligraphy, ink painting, and typography, creating a unique fusion of Eastern and Western visual styles.

This series of Chinese character posters was created for the “Taiwan Impressions” poster exhibition in Taipei, which focused on Chinese characters. In this series of posters, he combines the elements of “mountain,” “water,” “wind,” and “cloud” with calligraphy tools. A brush and a mountain represent the stability of the character "mountain," while a paperweight and flowing ink illustrate the fluidity of the character “water.” An ancient inkstone and swirling lines convey the rhythm of “wind,” and a cloud-shaped inkbed with intertwined colorful ink lines portrays the ethereal quality of the character “cloud.” Each design emphasizes the deep connection between Chinese characters, tools, and natural elements, showcasing his understanding of traditional Chinese culture and his innovative fusion with modern design.

Kan Tai-Keung’s design not only highlights the unique beauty of Chinese characters but also demonstrates their close relationship with nature and traditional culture. It transcends the boundaries between graphic design and traditional art forms, creating works that are both visually striking and culturally rich.
